Wild Clay Primitive Pottery Workshop

About the Workshop

You will go through creating with local wild clay, from sustainable harvesting to firing your creation.

We will work together to search and dig the clay from the ground, process it, and fire your wild clay creation on site.

Using simple and widely natural tools, techniques, and materials like stones, branches, bones, etc.

This is an immersive workshop and an exercise in making art from natural desert materials. Because of the clay’s slow drying time, you should expect to make small pieces, such as pots, beads, or small bells, rather than larger projects. The creation options are endless, allowing for a diverse and creative experience.

You will experience demonstrations of various building methods and decorative surface techniques, have time for hands-on learning and exploration, and receive technical advice and project guidance as needed.

We will gather dry natural materials for building a pit fire as an ancient method of firing all clay creations.

All skill levels are welcome and will be guided through the process with suggested ideas and demonstrated techniques.

Come with an inquisitive mind, and you will leave with a deeper understanding of natural materials and finished pieces made by you from the ground up!

The workshop is designed for adults, although 16-18 year olds are welcome if accompanied by a participating adult.
